Location of the Pantheon

Address: Piazza della Rotonda, 00186 Rome, Italy
Closest Landmark: Piazza Navona (400 m)

The Pantheon is truly located in the heart of Rome’s historic center, nestled within the Pigna rione, one of the city’s oldest districts. It stands proudly in Piazza della Rotonda, a charming square surrounded by cafés and historic buildings.

The area is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site that encompasses Rome’s historic core. Within walking distance, you will find iconic landmarks such as Piazza Navona, the Trevi Fountain, and the Largo di Torre Argentina archaeological site. The central location makes the Pantheon easily accessible on foot from most major attractions in Rome, and its surrounding cobblestone streets are perfect for exploring the authentic atmosphere of the Eternal City.

How to get to the Pantheon

The Pantheon does not have a metro station directly nearby, as the historic center lacks underground lines. However, you can take Line A to Barberini station and walk approximately 10-15 minutes through the charming streets of central Rome. Another option is taking Line A to Spagna station and enjoying a pleasant 15-minute stroll passing by the Spanish Steps. While not the most direct route, the walk itself is part of the Roman experience.

The bus is one of the most convenient ways to reach the Pantheon. Several lines stop at Largo di Torre Argentina, just a 5-minute walk from the monument. Bus lines 30, 40, 62, 64, 70, 81, 87, and 492 all serve this stop. Alternatively, buses running along Corso del Rinascimento or Via del Corso will also drop you within easy walking distance. Keep in mind that Rome’s traffic can be unpredictable, so allow extra time during peak hours.

Tram line 8 offers a scenic way to reach the Pantheon area. It stops at Largo di Torre Argentina, from where you can walk to the Pantheon in about 5 minutes. This option connects the Trastevere neighborhood directly to the historic center, making it ideal if you are staying on that side of the Tiber River.

Driving to the Pantheon is not recommended. The monument is located within Rome’s ZTL (Zona a Traffico Limitato), a restricted traffic zone where unauthorized vehicles are not permitted and fines are automatically issued. If you are traveling by car, park outside the historic center and use public transport or walk. Parking areas near Termini Station or Villa Borghese offer good alternatives with easy connections to the city center.

Walking is arguably the best way to reach the Pantheon, especially if you are already exploring Rome’s historic center. From the Trevi Fountain, it is a 7-minute walk. From Piazza Navona, you can reach it in just 5 minutes, and from the Spanish Steps, the walk takes around 15 minutes. The surrounding streets are pedestrian-friendly and filled with historic sites, shops, and cafés, making the journey as enjoyable as the destination.
